Transitional Spaces

A utility drive can be transformed into a street party!  In this project, the narrow drive between two rows of new townhomes seemed like there was little opportunity to make it into something special.  From a movement standpoint, this narrow passageway was very important as the front doors and garages all pour into this space.  We wanted to encourage more than just the comings and goings of these homes.  Though thoughtful design of the ground plane, creating opportunities for green spaces, and strategic usage of vegetation, the space has become a place.  In this narrow atmosphere, people enjoy transitioning from the world outside the complex to their home.  Residents enjoy the relaxed “unwritten” community space to socialize, gather, and stroll.  Street party anyone?
